As a Uniformed Officer, you’ll be part of our Road Fuel Testing Unit. Out on the road for the majority of the week, you’ll challenge the deliberate misuse of fuels and, where appropriate, seize vehicles and assets.

What could I be doing?

You’ll be working to help prevent fraudulent use of rebated oils. You may be involved in selecting targets, traffic stops, interviews under caution, and the sampling and chemical testing of fuel. Part of the role involves accurately maintaining an official notebook, writing witness statements and attending court as an official witness if required. You will also be required to work flexibly which will include shifts and on call.

Do I have the right skills or qualifications?

An ability to work well in a team is essential for this role – as is a full, clean driving licence. You’ll be driving either 4X4s or large vans and you’ll be expected to share driving duties. There is a significant amount of travel around your region involved and occasionally this will mean an overnight stay. The role is also physically and mentally demanding – as a result you will need to complete appropriate training before you start. This is usually residential.

You’ll also need to demonstrate strong verbal and numeric aptitude. Applicants should refer to the specific job advert for details of any job-specific qualifications

Training plays a big part in our work here. As well as core training and a structured induction, your role-specific training will include Enforcement Skills, Road Fuel and Personal Safety. All our staff also have access to almost 100 e-learning and classroom products available covering all aspects of criminal justice work.
